Position Opening: Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication – Public Relations
The Hubbard of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of strategic communication, to begin fall semester 2020 (August 31, 2020). We are seeking an outstanding scholar with research and teaching interests in public relations.
Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and University policy. Candidates for the position must possess an earned Ph.D. in communication, mass communication, or another relevant field by August 2020 and a record of original scholarly research. Candidates at all experience levels (including ABD candidates and advanced assistant professor candidates) will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who complement existing Hubbard School faculty with demonstrated expertise in one or a combination of the following areas: advocacy/social change communication, corporate/nonprofit communication, ethics, international/multicultural communication, media analytics, public diplomacy, risk or crisis communication, social influence and networks, social media, and other areas relevant to public relations.
Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work and relevance to the position in public relations, evidence of research ability, evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of recommendations. Meaningful professional experience and the capacity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a rapidly evolving curriculum in strategic communication are desirable.
About the Job
Depending on their background and interests, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the School’s core undergraduate program curriculum in addition to courses in the strategic communication BA, professional MA and/or academic MA/PhD program in their area of expertise.
Faculty in the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research or creative activity that includes publication, exhibition, or performance; develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise students; and contribute service appropriate for the rank of the appointment to the department, college, University, and profession.
