The virtual KACA-ICA business meeting was held on Wednesday evening. Dr. YoungJu Shin (KACA Vice President, Arizona State University) first introduced the 2021-2023 ICA Subcommittee members and moderated the meeting. President Dr. Jin-Ae Kang (East Carolina University) gave a welcome speech. The KACA-ICA report, KACA financial report, and membership drive were presented. The KACA officer election, Korean Journal of Communication, and Asian Journal of Communication’s special issue were announced.
Research Session
On Sunday, May 28th, 2023, a KACA-ICA research session was held. Five accepted research studies were presented in the research session. Dr. Hyang-Sook Kim (Townson University) chaired the session and Drs. Hyunjin Kang (Nanyang Technological University) and Jiyoung Lee (Sungkyunkwan University) served as respondents. Dayeoun Jang (Michigan State University, USA) presented a collaborative study titled, “A Preliminary Study for Developing Perceived ESG Scale to Measure Public Perception toward Organizations’ ESG Performance”, Dr. Eun-Jeong Han (Salisbury University) presented a collaborative study titled, “Race/Ethnicity, Education, and Society: Educational Challenges of Students from Multicultural Families in Korea”, Hye Jung Kim (Ewha Womans University) presented a collaborative study titled, “Feeling Distant and Uncertain: Expanding Hazard Characteristics in the Risk Information Seeking and Processing Model”, and Dr. Sangwon Lee (New Mexico State University) presented a collaborative study titled, “Reinforcing Spirals of Media Cynicism and Political Cynicism: Evidence from Two Panel Data Sets”. Lastly, a video recorded presentation titled, “News Media Trust, News Platform Repertoires, and Political Participation During the Election Campaigns” was delivered by Zhieh Lor (Ewha Womans University).

The top paper was “A Preliminary Study for Developing Perceived ESG Scale to Measure Public Perception toward Organizations’ ESG Performance” by Hyun Jung Oh (Hanyang University, ERICA, South Korea), Sejin Park (Hanyang University, ERICA, South Korea), Hye Hyun Ma (Hanyang University, ERICA, South Korea), Byoungkwan Lee (Hanyang University, ERICA, South Korea), and Dayeoun Jang (Michigan State University, USA).
Networking and Social Reception
KACA held an onsite networking and social reception on Sunday evening in person. Drs. Hyang-Sook Kim (Towson University), Kyunghee Hazel Kwon (Arizona State University), and Eun-Jeong Han (Salibury University) were invited to speak about research, teaching, and job search and promotion and tenure for graduate students and junior scholars at the networking event, followed by social reception. Over 40 KACA scholars and graduate students, including prospective KACA members, joined the KACA events.
